Our vision at The Greener Good is to transform commercial landscapes services delivery by embracing sustainable practices that protect and enhance the environment. While traditional landscaping has long delivered beauty and ecological benefits, the industry’s reliance on gas-powered equipment has contributed to noise pollution and carbon emissions. We aim to lead the shift toward carbon-neutral operations, reducing environmental impact while preserving the value landscapes bring.
Our team at The Greener Good, has been part of the landscape industry for a combined 75+ plus years. Our founder built two successful commercial landscape services companies. These ventures were focused on delivering exceptional landscape services to clients across the Dallas Fort Worth area, and we took great pride in beautifying communities, enhancing outdoor spaces, and contributing to the well-being of the people who enjoyed them.
But here’s the truth: for much of that time, we didn’t give much thought to climate change or the environmental impact of our work. Frankly, it wasn’t on our radar. Like almost everyone in the industry, we focused on creating beautiful landscapes but didn’t realize, or perhaps didn’t fully acknowledge, the environmental cost of traditional landscaping practices.
As the years passed and we began considering re-entering the landscape industry, it became clear that the world had changed. Climate change was no longer a distant concern; it was front and center in the minds of governments, businesses, and individuals and rightfully so. We couldn’t ignore the growing awareness that the landscaping industry, despite its benefits to the environment, also plays a role in contributing to pollution, carbon emissions, and noise pollution.
We began to look critically at the tools and equipment we’d been using for decades, gas-powered mowers, blowers, and trucks, and realized the extent of their impact. The statistics were staggering. For example:
Operating a commercial lawnmower for just one hour produces as much smog-forming pollution as driving a car 300 miles and we operated hundreds of these for an average of 800 hours per year!
Running a gas-powered leaf blower for one hour emits as much carbon dioxide as driving a car 1,100 miles and we operated hundreds of these as well for about the same number of hours!
Gas-powered leaf blowers can reach noise levels of up to 115 dB, which is comparable to the noise of a jet engine at takeoff!
Honestly, we did the math and we felt compelled to act. We realized that, as leaders in the industry, we had an opportunity, and responsibility, to do better.
Landscaping has long been seen as a positive force in communities. Well-designed landscapes help reduce urban heat, improve air quality, and promote biodiversity. But we also must acknowledge that traditional landscaping methods are contributing to environmental harm. At The Greener Good, we believe that the landscape industry can, and must, do better.
When we set out to start our new venture, The Greener Good, we did so with a clear mission: to change the way we operated. We wanted to continue creating beautiful, functional landscapes while also reducing the negative impact our operations were having on the environment. That’s why we committed to 100% carbon-neutral operations, a goal that involves replacing traditional gas-powered equipment with electric alternatives and reducing emissions wherever possible.
We knew this would come with significant costs. Electric equipment is more expensive, and transitioning to a fleet of electric or hybrid vehicles requires a significant investment. But we also knew it was the right thing to do, not just for our business, but for the planet.
In many ways, we see this as a new chapter in our journey. We’re still the same team that has built award-winning businesses, but now we’re focusing on being part of the solution rather than contributing to the problem. We’re committed to making a difference by reducing our carbon footprint and leading the way for others in the industry to do the same.
We’ve come to realize that many of our clients, whether they’re commercial property owners, municipalities, or corporate campuses, are just as committed to sustainability as we are. They, too, want to be leaders in their own fields, making decisions that align with their values and contribute to the betterment of society.
